A two-vehicle collision with injuries occurred around 9:08 a.m. today on state Route 51 northbound near Shea Boulevard. Department of Public Service officials don’t have information on the cause of the collision or the number and type of injuries.Witnesses reported that the driver of one of the vehicles involved fled on foot from the scene. DPS officers located and arrested him. He is the driver of one of the vehicles. His name has not been released and he hasn’t yet been charged.Investigators are trying to determine if impairment was a factor in the crash. The vehicles have been moved to the right side of the roadway and there is only minimal travel restriction to the right traffic lane.Check back for further information.

Mark Noppenberg, 47, barricaded himself in the residence near 8700 East Oak Street on Tuesday about 5:30 p.m., according to Scottsdale police. Authorities used a diversionary device and a Taser to take suspect into custody. Police say Noppenberg was transferred to a local hospital to treat a few minor injuries, and that he will be booked on domestic violence related charges. No other injuries were reported. Chandler man found guilty of bribing, harassingMay 1st, 2008, 4:15 pm by Mike BranomThe leader of a Scottsdale non-profit organization was convicted Thursday for harassing public employees and bribing a Chandler police officer. Edward Anthony Purvis, 39, of Chandler could be punished with nearly 19 years imprisonment when he is sentenced May 29. The crimes stem from the Arizona Corporation Commission’s investigation into Nakami Chi Group Ministries, which had promised investors returns of 24 percent. The ACC was looking into potential state securities violations and fraud. According to prosecutors, Officer Bradley Todd Forward was bribed by Purvis to look up confidential information on law enforcement computers. Forward also testified he provided Purvis with the ACC’s confidential investigation file. Purvis’ partner, Gregg L. Wolfe, pleaded guilty to similar charges. He also will be sentenced on May 29. The jury found Purvis harassed two ACC attorneys, plus a judge and clerk of the Maricopa County Superior Court system. According to court testimony, Purvis filed $15 million liens against the four with the ultimate objective of derailing the ACC’s investigation. In June, Forward is scheduled to be sentenced for his role. Police arrived Thursday afternoon at New FoundationSchool, McKellips and 77th Street where a 13 year-old student was arrested after pushing a 23-year-old woman in the chest, police said. According to reports, the woman collapsed and was not breathing. A school nurse administered CPR and the woman was transported to Scottsdale Osborn Healthcare, where she is still in critical condition as of late Friday. The victim has a history of health problems including seizures, and authorities are unsure if the woman’s critical condition is due to her previous medical problems. The student was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault on the victim and another staff member, authorities said.The investigation is still ongoing Woman caught speeding 17 times by camerasApril 25th, 2008, 6:07 pm by Eddi TrevizoReckless driving and failure to appear in court landed one woman in jail after speed enforcement cameras captured her 17 times. Unikki McMillian, 30, a resident of Glendale was arrested by DPS officials after photo enforcement cameras caught her numerous times driving at criminal speeds along the State Route 101 within Scottsdale city limits. Authorities said that McMillian failed to appear in court, even after several notices were sent to her residence address. During the investigation in which authorities prepared to arrest McMillian, authorities discovered that her driver’s license was in suspension as a result of each of the photo enforcement violations. McMillian faces numerous charges including 17 counts of driving with a suspended license; 7 counts of criminal speed; and 3 counts of endangerment, said authorities. Scottsdale bank robbed by armed manApril 6th, 2008, 11:21 am by Devon HersomA bank teller inside a Safeway in Scottsdale handed over the contents of a cash drawer Saturday after a man demanded money while displaying a gun, police said. The suspect entered the store at 32551 N. Scottsdale Road and approached the U.S. Bank counter around 1:15 p.m., according to officer Dave Pubins. The man removed his gun and demanded cash from the teller. According to witnesses, the man was white, between the ages of 30 and 35 and was around 5′10″ tall. He wore an all-brown outfit with a baseball hat. He was heavy-set, with dark brown hair and a goatee. Police are still reviewing the Safeway surveillance video and have not released the footage, Pubins said. The suspect left on foot and police have not released the amount of money he received. One man dead, another injured in nightclub shootingMarch 22nd, 2008, 1:02 pm by Devon HersomAn argument inside the Scottsdale nightclub Buzz carried into the parking lot early Saturday morning when two men were shot around 1:55 a.m. The victims, aged 19 and 20, were shot by a man who is still at large. The 20-year-old Phoenix resident was killed while the 19-year-old is currently in critical condition with multiple gun shot wounds, according to Scottsdale officer Dave Pubins. According to Pubins, the victims were acquaintances but it is unknown if the men knew the shooter. The gun man was last seen walking through the Buzz parking lot at Scottsdale Road just south of Shea Blvd. Witnesses gave different descriptions of the man’s clothing and police have yet to release a description of the suspect. The identities of the victims have not been released. The fire broke out about 3:45 p.m. in the bedroom of a house at 7641 E. Catalina Drive, near Thomas and Hayden. A mattress and some other items caught fire in the room, authorities said. Taxi driver assaulted with hunting knife handleFebruary 11th, 2008, 3:35 pm by Katie McDevittA taxi driver called police Sunday after a man he picked up at Casino Arizona and dropped off in Mesa struck him in the back of the head with the handle of a hunting knife. Police said the man is described as white, 20 to 30 years old, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches and 160 to 170 pounds with short dark hair, a well-groomed beard and a black baseball cap and black jacket. The taxi driver took the man to the area of 1800 N. Old Colony. Before the man got out of the taxi, he assaulted the driver, then ran to a silver SUV that pulled up in the area and got into the vehicle and fled. An investigation is ongoing. |
