Man convicted in meth ring

December 12th, 2007, 3:10 pm by Jill Redhage

A Cave Creek man was convicted Tuesday of participating in a large methamphetamine distribution ring, Attorney General Terry Goddard announced Wednesday.

After a two-week trial, Thomas Desposito, 41, was found guilty of 13 counts of methamphetamine sale and possession. Goddard said Phoenix police uncovered the distribution ring in 2005, which they said was importing large quantities of the drug from Mexico.

Desposito will be sentenced on Jan. 23. He faces up to 15 years in prison.

A 51-year-old man was reported missing Sunday morning in the Seven Springs area,  said Capt. Paul Chagolla, a spokesman for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

The man’s all-terrain vehicle was found near where Sycamore Creek and the Verde River converge, in a remote area east of Scottsdale. Police did not release the name of the missing man.

Authorities said the ATV likely had a mechanical failure.

“We are conducting a search operation, including the use of our helicopter,” Chagolla said.

Deputies began the search Sunday. The man has been missing since 9 p.m. Saturday.

Saturday morning killing in Cave Creek

October 20th, 2007, 11:01 am by Jill Redhage

Phoenix Police are searching for a group of men believed to be responsible for the shooting death of a man who died in the back yard of a north Valley home early Saturday.

Spokeswoman Stacie Derge said police responded to 4217 E. Desert Forest Trail in Cave Creek about 6:50 a.m. Saturday, where they found the man lying in the back yard with several gunshot wounds. He died at the scene and a 24-year-old man was rushed to the hospital with a single non-life threatening gunshot wound, according to police.

Police began investigating the homicide shortly after receiving several calls from people reporting shots fired near the Carefree Highway and North Cave Creek Road.

Police said the shooting was not random or drug-releated, and the victims and the suspects were all at the house for a short time together before the incident happened.

Police are not releasing a motive for the shooting at this time or the deceased man’s name.
