Pinal County Sheriffs Deputies on Monday caught two juveniles and an 18-year-old accused of burglarizing a residence in the Santan area. The three attempted to take two flat screen televisions, valued at about $4,100 combined.
At about 11 a.m., deputies went to the area of Gantzel and Bella Vista roads for a possible residential burglary reported by a neighbor. That person said that three unfamiliar juveniles were loading two flat-screen televisions into a white Dodge pick-up truck.
About 15 minutes later, a deputy made a traffic stop on Ironwood and Guadalupe roads in Apache Junction on a truck that fit the suspect description and had two televisions in its bed. A 16-year-old was booked into Pinal County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of burglary. The 18 year old and a 17 year old are awaiting charges.

Hourlong stolen car pursuit ends in A.J. desertSeptember 1st, 2008, 7:57 pm by Devon HersomA 27-year-old man is accused of stealing a vehicle in Apache Junction and fleeing from officers during a traffic stop, sending authorities on an hourlong pursuit through two cities. According to Apache Junction spokesman Sgt. Steve Kridler, driver Abelardo Ularte fled from police after three cruisers attempted to make a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle near Apache Trail and Meridian Road at 4 p.m. After Ularte ran a red light, Kridler said the street chase was called off because it could endanger other drivers. A Mesa Police Department helicopter followed Ularte for an hour while he drove up to 70 miles per hour through Mesa and Apache Junction, running stop signs and red lights, Kridler said. Police tried to deploy stop sticks, but Ularte avoided them by making U-turns, he said. Kridler said Ularte drove into the desert to evade capture, but his vehicle fell into a ditch and became inoperable. He attempted to run around a trailer house at 999 W. Broadway Road but slammed into the side of a van on the other side. The crash slowed him down enough to allow officers to apprehend him, Kridler said. After his arrest, police also discovered that Ularte had a Maricopa County felony warrant for his arrest. A.J. officials: Neglected animals won’t go homeJuly 29th, 2008, 8:14 pm by Katie McDevittNearly 190 animals that Apache Junction police found at a home in deplorable conditions in February won’t be returned to the couple who owned them, officials said Tuesday. Apache Junction City Attorney Joel Stern said the city has also forwarded the case to the Pinal County Attorney’s Office for possible criminal charges. In the civil hearing, a judge ordered that all surviving 189 animals wouldn’t be returned to the family who lives on South Hilton and had kept the dogs, rabbits, chickens, goats, horses, cats, a pig, an African Parrot and a cockatiel in dirty smelly conditions. One horse hadn’t stood up in months and had to be euthanized, baby goats were found soiled and crying and other animals were so sickly they too had to be killed. “We took a lot of the animals, in fact I think we took all of the rabbits and it took most of two days to trim all of the rabbit toenails,” said Pinal County spokeswoman Heather Murphy. Pinal County assisted in the rescue efforts and Murphy said workers stayed overnight to help groom and trim animals, although the case itself was in Apache Junction’s jurisdiction. Stern said the couple who owned the animals were willing to give up all of the pets, except one — a large Great Dane and Mastiff mix — which they told the court belongs to their son. “I thought, you know what?” Stern said. “It was in that house and I don’t think it should go back to anyone else associated with that house.” The courts decided the dog was “cruelly neglected” and also shouldn’t be returned to the family.
