Scottsdale school accountant accused of embezzlement

An accountant at El Dorado Private School in Scottsdale is facing felony charges of fraud and theft after admitting to embezzling $145,000 from the school for her own use.Scottsdale police arrested Desiree Rose Galinas, 40, on May 10 after officials at the school contacted authorities and told them they discovered the money had been missing since June 2006.School officials said they found that Galinas had written a check for $6,500 to her divorce attorney.When Galinas was questioned by police about the suspicious transactions, she admitted that she had used the school funds to pay her personal debts, including the check to her attorney, police said.Galanis was booked into the Scottsdale City Jail on one count of fraud schemes and one count of theft. She later was released from custody.Linda McDermott, principal of El Dorado Private School, at 20624 N. 76th Street, on Thursday declined to comment on Galinas because of the police department
