Mesa police arrested a man they believe pointed a gun at his mother and threatened to kill her.
According to police reports Steven A. Jones, 24, pointed a handgun at his mother and threatened to kill her after and argument over their dogs Sunday afternoon. The mother, who was not identified, called 911 and told police her son pulled the gun out and pointed it at her, but fled on foot before authorities arrived on scene, according to reports.
Jones was arrested shortly after near 8th Street and Stapley Drive. According to police Jones appeared to be under the influence of alcohol slurring his speech and making rambling statements.
Jones told police he and his mother had a discussion about the safety of Mesa when he pulled out the gun to show his mother “they would be safe”, according to police. When authorities asked Jones if he had threatened his mother Jones told police he would never hurt her, and that he left the house to get away from her.
According to authorities Jones was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault.
Have the police got to ARREST EVERYONE? Undoubtedly, this guy was drunk. It’s doubtful he would have hurt his mother.

He’s obviously a grown man living at home with his mom who he obviously doesn’t have much respect for pulling a gun on her. She should show tough love and give him the boot. AND TAKE THOSE DOGS WITH HIM
Maybe the mother wants to keep the dogs.
…and he later killed her, the family would file a $50 million lawsuit against the Mesa PD for having let him go back home.
I wish this jerk would have resisted arest but I guess its easy to be tough guy with your old mom “while armed”

Actually, I agree that he should have been arrested - just was wondering if you were all paying attention. GUNS should be regulated….not taken away, but regulated. And anyone who has been arrested for a crime involving a gun should NOT get it back.
Thanks to the Lautenberg Amendment, if he is convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence, he probably won’t get his gun back or be allowed to legally possess any other firearms. The act bans shipment, transport, ownership and use of guns or ammunition by individuals convicted of misdemeanor or felony domestic violence, or who is under a restraining (protection) order for domestic abuse. The act also makes it unlawful to knowingly sell or give a firearm or ammunition to such person.
