A Mesa toddler was seriously injured Friday afternoon when she was accidentally run over by a flat-bed trailer, said Mesa authorities.
The 3-year-old girl was still breathing but was bleeding from her stomach and had a rapidly swelling left leg according to Mesa police.
Authorities reported that the toddler had a complete femur fracture and possible hip or abdominal trauma. Mesa police said the injuries appear to be non life-threatening.
Authorities were unsure how the child was run over but said the incident ,which occurred near Val Vista Drive and Adobe Street at 5:47 p.m., appears to be accidental. Authorities said the child’s father reported the incident and said his father-in-law was driving the trailer.
Emergency units were on scene treating the child and a helicopter transported the toddler to a local hospital at 6 p.m.
