A Pinal County man escaped custody Sunday after being Tased twice by a sheriff’s deputy and assaulting the officer repeatedly during a traffic stop, according to arrest records.
The suspect, Gilberto Marruquin Gamez, was found in his home a day later and arrested for charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, unlawful flight and possession of drug paraphernalia.
An on-duty Pinal County sheriff’s deputy spotted Gamez riding his bicycle impeding the flow of traffic on Yaqui Way in a neighborhood in Stanfield, according to a PCSO arrest report. After the deputy turned on his siren and attempted to pull Gamez over, the suspect raised his middle finger at the officer and continued on, the report says.
The man ditched his bicycle on the driveway of a home on W. Cooper Drive in Stanfield and attempted to enter the residence, but the door was locked. Gamez entered the home’s backyard and laid on his stomach, the report shows.
As the deputy grabbed Gamez, the suspect fought back by punching the officer in the arms and chest.
The deputy Tased the suspect twice but he again fought back and was able to remove the Taser probes from his own chest, the report said.
Gamez ran into a nearby home and was able to escape arrest after fleeing from a side entry. Officers were able to locate Gamez the next day because he was recognized by the deputy from past encounters, the report shows. Following his arrest, Gamez was transported to the Florence Adult Detention Center.

Theres probably some mild harrassment going on because we are talking pinal county sheriff, not the upmost of cops there! ! ! I’d be willing to bet there is more to this story than meets the press………………..

On the other hand, it does take alot of “balls” to flip off a cop, avoid taser, run from him and escape………….alot of practice, eh?
LH, if you are on drugs Taser won’t necessarily take you down. My philosophy is this, Tase once, if no go down then other lethal (not nonlethal) methods should be used.
Know what you are talking about before opening your mouths! The Taser is far from perfect and does not always work as advertised. Gamez is a career criminal with a long history of fighting law enforcement. And by the way robnaz, Stanfield is one of the most dangerous areas due to the high volume of drug/illegal alien trafficking. Try patrolling that town by yourself in the middle of the night when bad people are out!
I agree bigjay, it is a very bad place w/ nothing but illegals and desolates. I did work there at nights when my delivery route went through there around 2 a.m. every morning. But I didn’t see anywhere in the article about patroling at night - that this incident happened at night……………all I’m saying is its not a heavy “traffic” area, not in the normal sense…….my sense is there is more to this story than meets the eye.
By the way, Pinal County is such a messed up “jurisdiction”, my bet is he’ll get a slap on the hand. Courts down here are as bad as the sheriffs office
Robnaz, yeah its called the report! Remember, media pulls out the parts you want to hear… And Big Jay is right I see the same Deputies patrolling every day. One deputy in the morning, one in the afternoon, and one at night. Those same guys dont have anyone else out there with them. That means they start by them selves and end by themselves. No back up within 15min-30min! And it says he was arrested for “drug paraphernalia” most likely meth or pcp. Thats how he got away, i know the sheriff’s office dont play when it comes to hands on!
I can’t understand why someonewould assault an officer doing his job for no reason behind it whatsoever.Just goes to show what kind of animals you have out there.
