Woman accused of child abuse

November 13th, 2008, 3:51 pm · 7 Comments · posted by Gary Grado

Mesa police arrested a 33-year-old woman Wednesday on suspicion of child abuse and extreme drunken driving after she left her 4-year-old daughter home alone, according to court documents.
Checkie Hessel drew attention when she tried to pick up her child from daycare that she had picked up four hours earlier.
Witnesses said Hessel appeared intoxicated and confused.
A neighbor found the child alone at home naked from the waist down and eating cheese and Ovaltine powder from the container, the court document states.
Police said Hessel admitted to to drinking a half pint of vodka and she theorized that she blacked out at home and forgot about picking up her daughter earlier.

I’m surprised. My ex-wife does nearly the exact thing with my THREE children. All Mesa police did when she was reported was say, “As long as the children have access to food and water there is nothing the Police can do.”

  • Annoyed Father says:

Needless to say she will probably be given a warning and the child with have the joy of being raised by a lousy parent.

But, HEY…. she’s the mother…. so she MUST be the best person for the job.

    GIVE ME A BREAK!!

According to law a child can be left from the age of 14 and under. In other words, a 14 yr old can be a babysitter for younger children. Other than that it IS against the law for children to be left alone……….ESPECIALLY a 4 yr old. I suppose that is better than her taking the 4 yr old locking her in a car until someone finds the child dead. CPS needs to take this child away and someone needs to kick that ladys A@!@. SHES A LOSER.

  • RobnAZ says:

Oh, and Annoyed Father, not all mothers are such losers. But you can challenge the mother for custody, start building a case against her if you really feel your ex is that bad. The kids would probably appreciate if you did that. I hope you get custody one day……..instead of just complaining, do something about it. Good Luck…..
