A pick up truck struck and killed a pedestrian Sunday at a Mesa intersection.
According to Mesa police, a 2000 Chevrolet truck was in the westbound curb lane of Broadway Road approaching Horne at about 8:30 p.m. when the pedestrian stepped into the road against the traffic signal.
The pedestrian was taken to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn hospital and pronounced dead.
Police have yet to notify the next of kin.
The driver of the truck was not impaired and no charges are pending, according to police.

Cross at the green, not in between.
I am so sick of the pedestrians not following common sense. They stand on the edge of the curb waiting to cross; cross mid-block; cross against the light and so on. I have yet to meet a person that has won when going 1-on-1 with a vehicle. Come on people, brighten up.
Consider the area! Some Gal was puishin’ a shopping cart in the west bound turn lane at Mesa Dr. and Southern last week. It’s pitch black out and she’s wearin’ all black. Because i’m a cautious driver( 99% of the time) that woman is still out there! Wanted to call a cop but the only description i could have given them was a Mexican gal pushing a shopping cart! My advice, if you don’t have to drive in that area, don’t! The whole area is an accident waiting to happen! You tell me what’s going on with these folks? Do they expect to live and somehow get a free ride for the rest of their lives? Something ain’t right and absolutely nothing will ever be done about it!

Tough neighborhood. Most pedestrians in this area get robbed, jumped or shot.
A little common sense from the driver may also have averted this death. In AZ. this type of killing is epidemic. In many states, other then AZ. this would be a involuntary manslaughter and you be facing jail time and a lot of it. I think in most cases this type of senseless killing could have been avoided if the driver had been more prudent. A 2 ton pickup at 45MPH is a accident waiting to happen and it did. A driving licence and driving is a awesome responsibility. There is enough blame for both sides, maybe the driver was distracted by his /her texting or possibly the phone was to close to his/ her ear. The lost of a life is not a time for jubilation. How pathetic !
Are you insane, bystander? It was 8:30 at night & some moron stepped off the curb in front of them. Moron got what moron deserved. Too bad, not too sad.
No matter what, it is still tragic for all parties involved……….maybe someone will see this and use the cross walk………..
