Police last week arrested a man who attempted to carjack a woman at knife point outside a Chandler PetSmart.
Police said that around 5:30 p.m. Oct. 22, Alan Nelson, 23, jumped into an unlocked car in a parking at 808 W. Warner Road at Alma School Road. Nelson demanded that the driver give him cash, according to Chandler police spokesman Dave Ramer. When she said she didn’t have any, Nelson forced her to drive him to Arizona Credit Union, 1311 W. Chandler Boulevard at Alma School.
When the woman arrived, she jumped out of her vehicle and banged on the teller’s window, yelling to call 911. Nelson jumped out of the car and ran away.
Ramer said plain-clothes Chandler police set up surveillance and stopped Nelson within 20 minutes of the incident. He matched a description given by the victim and witnesses at the credit union. The woman is a police volunteer, according to Ramer.
Wow, that is a brazen attack. No way would I have had the presence of mind to do what this woman did. She is smart and brave. Does anybody know if peeing on a carjacker’s shoes is an effective way of dealing with the situation? Guess we need to bring our pitbulls with us to the store. Wouldn’t that have been justice served?
