A man who attacked and injured a Tempe police official was sentenced Thursday to seven years in the Department of Corrections, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

Kyran Jones, 28, punched Lt. Mike Horn and pushed him to the ground in March 2008, according to Maricopa County records. Jones tried to reach for Horn’s holstered weapon, but a passerby who witnessed the attack helped detain Jones, according to the records.

Reports said that Horn suffered cuts and a dislocated shoulder because of the attack. Jones was indicted on two counts of assault and pleaded guilty on August 21.

“Our office takes seriously cases in which officers are attacked and we prosecute them vigorously,” said County Attorney Andrew Thomas. “We are very grateful that Lt. Horn was able to see his attacker face stern justice.”

 Jones was sentenced Thursday.
