A bicyclist was critically injured while riding Hunt Highway on Tuesday when he was clipped by a passing sport-utility vehicle.
Following the 6 a.m. incident, the 37-year-old man was transported by helicopter to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said.
No further details, including the victim’s name, were immediately available.
Authorities said the man was riding a motorized bicycle westbound on the shoulder of Hunt between Thompson Road and Ellsworth Road. That’s when he was struck by a Ford Bronco, driven by an 18-year-old.
The vehicle was traveling at the speed limit, 45 mph, if not slower, while the bicycle was going about 25 mph, authorities said.
The driver, who stopped and called 911, does not face any charges, authorities said.

honestly i hate to be a jerk but I dont like it when bicyclist ride on the roadway its too dangerous for them and for car traffic. if there is a bike lane then it should be legal but if no bike lane…..only motorized vehicles. I ride my bike on the sidewalk…safer

It is good to know that there are people who stop and help. Accidents happen

Yes, I think this teenage was brave. Let me tell you more…..

My son 22 and a co worker from ADI recently started carpool ing with this man as he did not have a car. The co worker responded to a ad on Craigslist this bike rider posted. Anyway, they were trying to help him and the three recently started carpooling. This morning my son who lives near Guadalupe and Power Rd. kept waiting for him to arrive at his apt, but he never showed up. My son called me, mom, as he was worried. He had to leave for work as now he was about a half hour late (can’t use carpool lane with one person) but also worried about him. He is also a family man. I told him his boss should understand. Then his wife phoned him in concern and my son told her that her husband never made it to his apt, but he would help her check valley hopsitals. I told him to have her call her local police and explain he was a bike rider and he never called saying he made it to the apartment or to his work. Then she received the dreaded phone call that her husband was in a terrible accident as you have read.

I don’t know this man’s name but my young son with young children thought he was dedicate to ride his bike soooooo far. He must be a real family man that no one really knows. I have never heard of anyone riding their little motorized bike about 50+ miles one way to work so that he could support his family, have you?

My thought and prayers are with both families.

Speaking about nice people, thank you to Dave Roche for stopping at Gilbert and Pecos in front of the college yesterday morning to help my 17 year old daughter who was in an accident with airbags deployed and all alone until he pulled up. He settled her down, made sure she called me and 911, checked that she was Okay, and waited until the fire department arrive. The other driver never went to check on her and he will be 50 next month!

Any one riding any type of motorized bike or otherwise must have a death wish. That road is a death trap in a car. And at 6:00AM it is still dark. Hope the rider is ok and that was a very mature 18 year old to stop, help, and not run off.

An idiot with a death wish rides the Hunt Highway shoulder on a motor bike. Jeez!
He is lucky not to have been tossed into a neighboring field and air-evac’d out.

This man was on his way to work, 40 miles away! ! ! He has not regained consciousness yet and a family is in peril. He has a wife, 3 boys and one on the way. You can go to MY SPACE and type in Shawn Ormond (victims name). You can also e-mail family at mommybearx4@gmail.com. They are in need of financial assistance.
