A 16-year-old girl, who is the niece of Tempe mayor Hugh Hallman, has been missing since Saturday evening, according to the girl’s father and Tempe Police.

A Tempe police spokesman said the teen’s family reported her missing just before midnight Saturday.

The mayor’s brother Kelly Hallman said his daughter Paige Hallman (pictured) was meeting two male family friends in Papago Plaza less than a mile from their home near the intersection of McKellips and Scottsdale roads at 6:15 p.m. Kelly Hallman said Paige called the boys to tell them she would wait by a fountain at the property for them to arrive.

When the boys arrived, Paige was no where to be found, Kelly Hallman said.

The boys called Paige’s cell phone and she told them she was in a car with a man she didn’t know, Kelly Hallman said. Her friends told her to give the phone to the driver so they could ask him who he was.

A man said that he had picked Paige up at the fountain and immediately hung up, Kelly Hallman said. Since then, Paige’s cell phone has been turned off except for a text message conversation sent between her and an unknown person, according to tracking information on the cell phone, Kelly Hallman said.

Kelly Hallman said that Paige has run away from home twice before more than a year ago, but said this incident was different because she stayed in contact with her friends through her cell phone in the past.

Hugh Hallman said he has faith in the Tempe Police Department to find Paige and return her home.

“My first concern is for my brother, my sister-in-law and his family,” Hugh Hallman said.

Hugh Hallman said police would apply all the appropriate efforts to find his niece as they would any other missing citizen.

According to Tempe police Sgt. Steve Carbajal, Paige was last seen wearing a yellow and gray striped shirt, blue jeans and flip flops. She is 5″4′, weighs close to 125 pounds and has blonde hair and brown eyes.

Carbajal said the police department has not yet considered the disappearance suspicious.

Anyone who may have seen Paige is urged to call Tempe Police at (480) 350-8311.

That is not exactly the best side of town to be hanging out waiting for anyone. It’s filled with sleezy businesses and transients. Who lets their 16 year old daughter do that kind of thing? What ever happened to saying “no” to kids? Those parents will never forgive themselves if their daughter is hurt or killed. When will parents learn?

She’s cute, i’m 19 so I can say that lol. I hope shes okay. Maybe it’s just a big prank, because I’m thinking it would be pretty hard to kidnap a 16 year old girl, she can probably defend herself enough that she wouldnt just get taken down that easily, especially in public like that, its still light out at 6:15 too.

that area would have been busy enough for someone to see something if there was any kind of struggle, sounds to me like she got in the car voluntarilly

  • kelly hallman says:

She is my daughter, we are hoping someone saw her get into the vehicle. We feel she got into the car willingly, because she is trusting and doesnt think about danger, and then it turned sour. She has been an “A” student and hangs out with good kids. We know them. If anyone saw anything sat night about 6pm by the fountain at papago plaza please call tempe police.

TEMPE -Municipal leaders across the state are fighting methamphetamine by restricting the sale of over-the-counter drugs used to make it. But for Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman, it’s personal.

Hallman’s 37-year-old brother, Kelly, struggled with meth addiction and drug abuse for about 15 years before his family intervened and helped him kick the habit.

“The destruction it has is enormous,” the mayor said.

He believes “gateway drugs” led his brother to meth. After Kelly, who was a Junior Olympic diver, broke his legs and arm in high school, he got hooked on painkillers and soon began experimenting with meth, Hallman said.

He said that Kelly’s wife, Catherine, then picked up the drug that led to her addiction. The two struggled with meth for at least five years before family and friends intervened.

Kelly said he went to rehab but it didn’t stick, and he was soon using again until he went to rehab a second and third time.

Ultimately, Catherine, who had three children, decided she had enough and wanted herself and Kelly to be drug-free.

Kelly said the two have been clean for nearly nine years.

With an up-close and personal look at the effects of one of the most addictive, easy-to-manufacture drugs, the mayor is pushing for statewide restrictions on the sale of pseudoephedrine.

    Citizen,
While your report may be public record, it is not of any assistance to Paige or the authorities. A compassionate person might actually aid the cause rather than try to stir things up.

  • Clara says:

So, what does that have to do with the disappearance of the daughter?
You people take every opportunity to smear someone… eh?

  • steve says:

Words at a time like this are meaningless. I hope she returns unharmed.

We will pray for you and your family , hope that Paige turns up ok she is a great kid .. Peace & God Bless

  • Mildred says:

To me the story of the two men/boys that she was supposed to meet sounds just a teeny tiny bit fishy. Has there been any further investigation to the truthfulness of these persons?

Or has she been found yet? I so hope, SO HOPE she is home.

    M~.
