Teen found guilty in Higley school bus fight

September 23rd, 2008, 5:19 pm · 7 Comments · posted by Devon Hersom

A teen accused of assaulting her school bus driver in February was found guilty of one count of disorderly conduct Tuesday.

According to judicial assistant Joan Weyrauch, 15-year-old Samantha Taylor (left) was sentenced to summary probation, which means she will be required to attend counseling, write an essay and provide a certain amount of community service hours. She was not sentenced to any jail time, Weyrauch said.

Taylor’s court hearing was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Southeast Mesa Juvenile Court. According to Weyrauch, the trial ended close to 4:45 p.m.

On Feb. 15, Taylor and her Higley Unified School District bus driver Kim Sullivan argued after Sullivan stopped the bus to control unruly students.

Sullivan attempted to stop Taylor from exiting the bus using physical force, the video shows, and a fight between the two women ensued.

At one point, Sullivan’s daughter pulled Taylor away from her mother as several other students descended upon the fight.

At the time, Taylor was 14 years old and a student of Williams Field High School. She has since switched schools following the incident.

whatever happened to the daughter of the bus driver? this news report is pretty inconclusive if you’ve followed this case from the begining you’re left with a million questions……..the bus driver stopped the bus to attend to unruly students……..shouldn’t they also be charged with disorderly conduct?

  • Robin says:

by the way, since when is it ever legal for an “employee” to lay their hands on a student. The bus driver should have let the child get off the bus, reported the incident to appropriate personnel and been on her way. No justice here but this is typical of our judicial system.

Being deemed guilty is trauma enough. Seeing her mother on TV and her comments explains her actions,(I am the only one alive, can do as I please , damn rules and authority, attitude)The bus driver is 100% liable if she were to let her get off. Like a ships captain. The drivger is the sole leader on that bus, NOT a child. The daughter wwas protecting the driver, albeit, her mother. She was not the CAUSe of the distrubance.

I agree with Rich. The bus Driver is 100% Liable and todays kids are VERY Spoiled. Back in my day the 70’s to b exact i got hit with the belt and switches off the tree and man mind you i stayed out of trouble. Now a days u cant even spank your child without CPS being involved. Anyways what this girl got from the Judge is Great.I totally agree.

Wow this is insane first all the bus driver never should have touched her….nor let her get off the bus…the situation was blown way out content….both partys were wrong but why isnt the bus driver and her daughter getting charged….they all acted like spoiled brats…out of all people shouldnt the bus driver had control of the situation just as being an adult…somr kinda adult to put her hands on a 15 year old…i think samantha was defending herself maybe in the wrong manner but you live by example and the bus driver didnt set a very good example of how to handle a situation

this incident was very stupid, and the lady bus driver should have been fired and sent to jail for hitting a minor. You can clearly see the bus driver hit the teen first, and only a stupid person can say the student attacked first.
this incident stopped me from going on the bus, cause there are crazy people out there and you don’t know what they are capable of doing.
