A special new armored vehicle will hit the streets of Chandler soon for serious incidents that require police officers and the public to have ballistic protection.
The vehicle is called a Ballistic Armored Tactical Transport and will be used by the Special Assignments Unit, which is the same as a SWAT unit. Also, the spacious vehicle will be used to evacuate neighborhoods during dangerous events and to rescue injured officers and residents.
Police said the vehicle sits on a 2008 Ford F550 chassis and was manufactured by The Armored Group. It will replace a previous vehicle called “Peacekeeper” built in 1981 and donated from the Military Surplus Program in 2000.
Police will display the new vehicle at future department open houses and upcoming community events.

Cool! CPD have a new RV.
it is called an instrument of PUBLIC safety, not an RV….
CPD rox!!!
Seriously?!?! What a waste of tax dollars. How about spending the money on an effective background check process for officers of the Chandler PD…. now there’s an idea. Just maybe we could eliminate legal fees in dealing with the wingnuts that end up in the department.
I’M GUESSING YOU CAN OUTRUN THIS THINK IN A FORD ESCORT
can you say new world order.
It looks like it will only get 1.5 mpg. Ha, ha.
Get the facts before you regurgitate this crap.
Tax dollars? NOT
RV? Not
You can outrun it with an Escort but you can’t outrun what will be going down range to you.
When your neighbor goes nuts with his guns, you’ll be glad CPD has it. If you think otherwise, post your name so they can leave you to your own rescue.
I can’t believe there are so many cop haters in this world.
Wow…
