Two men were assaulted and robbed while returning home from downtown Tempe early Friday morning police say, leaving one man with several broken bones and another fighting for his life. Authorities believe the assault was motivated by aggression and not for the robbery itself.
The men were jumped by a group of three assailants in a neighborhood southwest of Southern Avenue and McClintock Drive, according to Tempe police spokesman Sgt. Steve Carbajal.
One of the victims, 22-year-old Graham Stanley, is the son of a well-known Idaho college dean, according to Idaho news station CBS 11 KMVT. Stanley received major head trauma in the assault and is still recovering in a local hospital.
The other victim, 23-year-old Nick Deeds, received several broken bones in the attack.
Police believe that the suspects knocked the men to the ground and continued to beat them while they lay incapacitated. The suspects stole a cell phone, wallets and $6 in cash when the men were unable to retaliate, Carbajal said.
After an investigation, Tempe Police arrested Gavin Lemusu (top left), 18, Jovi Lemusu (top right), 18, and Sunia Tukia (below), 20, as suspects in the beating, Carbajal said. All suspects were booked with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of aggravated robbery.
Amber Van Dine (not pictured), 20, is suspected of driving the getaway vehicle following the assault, Carbajal said. She was booked with a count of credit card theft.
The aggression motive is still being investigated and police could not release any more details regarding the case.

I hope there is justice in this assault and these men spend MANY years in jail. I agree that the charge should be attempted murder, I only hope there is some justice for these two young men who now have to face LONG recoveries.
This is a sad day, I know 2 of the alleged attackers and I feel for their family as I know that they have been raised with good values and it saddens me to see them through it all away in an event like this. I hope and pray for the victims that they will recover and return to as normal a life as possible. I am not sure what Vaffanculo is refereing to as to the fact that the victims were unaware ot the neighborhood they were in has to do with story since it is normally a peaceful and safe place to be. I to hope justice is served for the victims sake but I also hope that the attackers can be saved as well, because when I knew them they were fine young men.
I think that these attackers should be charged with attempted murder and I think they should lay down while someone hits them over the head with a bat several times until they die!!!! And NO the attackers should not be saved in any way. I know my solution is obviously not going to happen but it’s just my feelings of how things should be handled. To even mention these attackers names and “fine young men” in the same conversation is just disgusting! Ive known these kids for along time and they would never just beat anymore up for no reason. think before yout alk people. I really hope you come back to this article and read what i wrote, Talitha. Because in no way do I think that some of these people have any idea what they are talking about, and I know that there was a story involved behind all of this and that all of these people have no right saying what they did. But you know what I also know? I know that my brother is one of those boys in the hospital, and I know that your nephews have changed mine and my family’s life forever. Rather than allowing themselves to be picked on and bullied, if that really is the case, they really were left with no choice put to fracture my brother’s skull? a response to some of the previous comments: how can you say that someone deserves to be in a condition fighting for his life in a hospital bed because “thats what they asked for”. are you serious no one no matter what they have done to someone verbally of physically deserves that. I don’t know why this happened but i do know one thing, Those guys did what they did and now should be punished and i am a firm believer to punish the perpertrators the same way they did wrong. the only problem is the system to is to easy to beat in the way if they take this to trial the prosecutor will probely drop charges down from aggrevated assult and aggrevated robbery to assult and robbery or just assult. I still am wondering how two tall 22 and 23 year old kids who played sports for most there life got beat up by three kids years younger than them. they had to be some weopon used. Maybe the victims did start the altercation - once someone is defensless you do not continue to hurt them and then steal from them. This poor kid has major head trauma, he will never be the same. We dont know those boys, but what I do know is they did something that they shouldnt have that night. And if they were star athletes then why dont I here about them in the sports pages? What kind of parents raise their children to beat the crap out of people when someone looks at them the wrong way!!!! The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, as I always say. What kind of values are being taught at homes these days. Its very easy to lay the blame on someone else, but the bottom line is…these kids knew what they were doing when they continued to beat these young men down and down when they were on the ground.

This is the most moronic statement I have ever heard. I am sure two intoxicated men walking down a neighborhood street really “bullied” three younger kids in a car passing by… what a stupid comment. The fact of the matter is that there is nothing my two friends could have done to provoke an inhumane attack like this. It is a blessing that Graham is even ALIVE today, and if I was related to any of these criminals that did this then i would be embarrassed beyond my wildest dreams. There is nothing to say in favor of the guilty in this case, and for you to even try and argue shows your extreme ignorance. If I had children, and they ever did anything like this, the only thing that i would do is appologize as much as possible to the victims and their families and spend the rest of my life wondering where I had gone wrong.

OMG……….. No excuses please. Everyone seems to use that term good parents. And if they were star athletes, please tell me where? Cause I never ever read about them in the papers or saw them on the news. Only on this news. And the boys dropped charges due to there safety(probably).Plus when the state steps in its even a harsher trial, not cause there hiding something. They been through enough scars and nightmares, Im sure they have other reasons. And the 3 admitted to the crimes, they even found forensic evidence at the crime scene, so tell me now, what other altercations are they??? What could they have done to provoke this fight. Another thing puzzles me is they were drunk, and they are not even 21, who ever gave them the liquor should be prosecuted also. I dont know the victims at all but I couldnt believe how people can actually think that the 2 boys started it. And theyre friends are making comments and saying things cause it hurts them to see what they suffered. Did you see the boys scar from his brain surgery?
