A 16-year-old Gilbert teen stabbed his stepfather in the arm and shoulder Sunday morning after the two argued about placing the ice cube tray in the freezer, police say.
The 43-year-old step-father was transported to Scottsdale Osborne Hospital following the stabbing at 9:50 a.m. in the 3600 block of Hyatt Street, according to Sgt. Mark Marino of Gilbert police.
The stepfather told police that the teen left the ice tray on the kitchen counter and the teen stabbed the man in his left shoulder and arm during an argument, Marino said.
The teen was booked at the Southeast Juvenile facility on charges of aggravated assault, Marino said. The stepfather was also charged with assault after he was released from the hospital.

ALSO FOR THE POLICE TO CHARGE HIM WITH ASSULT, WHAT GIVES THEM THE RIGHT TO DO THAT, AGAIN JUST STAND THERE AND GET STABBED AND DO NOTHING, THIS SYSTEM OF PROTECTION NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT MORE DEEPLY I THINK. ‘WHY DID THE STEPFATHER GET CHARGED’? THAT IS MY QUESTION. WAS IT BECAUSE THE KID WAS A MINOR,? WHOOPI THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE MATTERED. ‘ THE KID HAD A KNIFE IN HIS HAND’. WAKE UP PEOPLE…… DOLEY NOTED AND THOUGHT VERY HARD.

Before jumping into a relationship where there are children are involved know that these children come FIRST. Many single women are so desperate to find a man who will move in and and raise there children that anyone will do. It’s common sense to have everyone in the family sit down multiple times and discuss each adults role. You can’t just “discipline” a child when you have no history with them. You are not and never will be there parent. The above situation didn’t just happen but was a result of many months/years of pent up anger. A fuse that was waiting to be lit.

No ice tray being left out of the freezer is worth argueing over in the first place. Would not be a crime to mention perhaps you could put that back into freezer next time… but to get in a heated arguement over it is absurd! If you are gonna pick your battles, pick one that counts and dont sweat the small stuff.
I agree with Turtle Breath. The ice cube tray was just the straw that broke the camel’s back. It goes a lot deeper than that or that child is extremely impulsive. Deep anger issues can lead to explosive behavior. Both need counselling.
