Two gang members suspected of punching and injuring two women in a rival gang were arrested Saturday night, Mesa police said.

Antonio Carrasco, 21, and his younger brother who is a juvenile were detained by authorities after several women told police that the brothers had beat them with closed fists and thrown rocks at their house, said police reports.

The brawl occurred Saturday night at a residence near Alma School Road and 6th Avenue, when Carrasco and his brother, both documented members of the Westside Crip Gang, began a shouting match after learning that the several women they had been talking to were members of a rival gang, said police.

According to police, during the course of the argument Carrasco told both women that “this is Westside” and that he’d “come back and bang on their house and shoot it up.” Carrasco and his brother threw rocks at the house, threatened to return and retaliate, and then drove off. They were followed by three women.

The argument between the two groups escalated when Carrasco and his brother punched the women, two of which suffered minor injuries due to the beating, Mesa police said. Both brothers fled the scene but were later arrested and identified in a photo line-up by the victims. Police questioned Carrasco who told authorities that the women from an Eastside gang had “thrown a beer at him and that he wasn’t about to be disrespected like that in his own territory,” according to reports.

Carrasco has a history of arrests and failure to appear in court, police said. He is being charged on suspicion of assault, assisting a street gang, and threats to promote a street gang.
