The Department of Public Safety has discovered that the man killed while riding his bicycle on the I-10 was visiting his family in California, and authorities have not determined why he was in Arizona.
Georgia resident Charles Fincher, 50, was scheduled to return home on Saturday to his hometown of Douglasville, DPS said.
DPS determined that Fincher was driving his father’s van near the Casa Grande area on Wednesday when it broke down.
Fincher was found dead Wednesday morning after the bicycle he was riding was hit by a semi-truck on the I-10 freeway, according to DPS.

He probably carried his bike with him and when his vehicle had problems he was going for help. Within the US there has been at least one accident every day involving semi trucks lately. They evidently aren’t as aware of their circumstances due to fatique and other factors. Years ago semi drivers were the most courteous drivers. They didn’t speed, take drugs, falsify their log books, and were definitely respected. Today there are still some of these drivers around but many drivers are concerned and under pressure to make their destinations. My sympathy for the family. Also to the driver, as the individual will have to live with this result for a lifetime.
When a 50-year-old man:
Borrows his fathers car (in Calfornia)
Drives to Arizona (without explanation)
Rides a bike on the freeway…
This isn’t an accident. This is suicide. I hope the driver can accept this, and find peace in their soul… and absolutely, my heart goes out to the family.
God bless us, every one.
My continued thoughts and prayers to the family of Chuck. It’s been nearly three months, and still this family needs our prayers. I pray that God will give Peace to this family that has been left behind.
