Three men attempted to break into a safe at a Mesa store Wednesday afternoon, police say, but were only able to get away with money from the front cash register.

According to a Mesa police news release, two armed men and one unarmed one entered Carniceria Murrieta’s near Broadway and Dobson roads at 1:30 p.m.

The police report says that the unarmed man had been in the store twice before the robbery on Wednesday.

The three employees of Carniceria Murrieta’s did not know how to open the safe, so one of the robbers fired his gun at it in an attempt to open it, the report said. They were not able to open the safe, but they got money from the cash register.

All three men were described as Hispanic and between 5′6″ and 5′7″. One of the men was wearing all black with a black ski mask, carrying a black handgun and weighed about 180 pounds.

The other two men, both around 150 pounds, were wearing blue jeans and white T-shirts. One had a handgun and wore a white bandanna; the other was not carrying a gun and wore a green backpack.
