Chandler police officials have launched an internal affairs investigation after two officers accidentally discharged guns on Friday —— once before and once after —— a Special Assignment Unit was called out to a crime.
Chandler police spokesman detective Frank Mendoza said no one was injured in the accidental shootings.
He refused to go into detail about how the shots were fired and said the case is currently under investigation internally.
Mendoza said accidental shootings by police are “very rare” because officers train extensively in the use of firearms.
Additional information wasn’t released by police.

What were their names, Gomer and Barney? Thank goodness they didn’t hurt someone. There is no excuse for an “accidental” discharge of a weapon, especially by law enforcement. Incredibly stupid.
Nothing new with Chandler’s finest.
This is news???
Sounds like news to me! Strange, unusual …
Da OOOOOPPSSS!!!
Dude, what happened.

Oh yeah, this sounds like a prime example of superior fire discipline. I bet these expert marksmen were keeping their fingers on the trigger guard when the weapon just spontaneously went off in anticipation of some action, right?
And these are the same people that take you to jail Take You To Jail TAKE YOU TO JAIL if you happen to have an accidental discharge while doing something such as, say, clearing a weapon into a sandpit outside of a firing range.
I’m sleeping much, much easier tonight; Barney Fife is on patrol.
THEY OBVIOUSLY NEED MORE TRAINING IF I “ACCIDENTALY” SHOOT MY GUN, I GO TO JAIL
It sucks to be a human being sometimes. I’m glad no one was injured. Stuff happens.
Andy please take Barney’s gun away from him.
Chandler has cops? I thought it was just full of illegals.
Be veryerwery, verwery kwyit, I am hunting wabbits, hhahahahaaha. ABBBABBBAAAB-thats all folks. who’s running that asylum.
OMG. Two officers and at the same crime scene? What an embarrassment for the Chandler PD. These officers are supposed to be highly trained, and they both accidently discharged their weapons? Yikes! I would sure like to have additional details - how in the world does a trained police officer “accidently” discharge a weapon?
It’s not true that police are “highly trained.” They are “barely trained”. They are required to be semi-proficient in firearms but most receive little or no additional training outside of the Academy other than their annual qualification test. The only cops that get more training usually do it on their own, with their own money, and it’s because they are “gun guys” that enjoy the sport of shooting. It’s funny that there are so many private citizens at the gun ranges every week becoming “highly trained” and learning how to use firearms safely and most cops don’t even like guns, they are just required to have them. If you’re not into something, it’s hard for you to learn or care about it.
By the way, there is no such thing as an accidental discharge of a firearm. If you follow the rules, handle the weapon safely, you will not discharge that weapon “on accident.” Only careless fools fire a sidearm “by mistake”.
