A Gilbert motorcycle officer that was hurt in a traffic accident was released from the hospital Thursday, according to a Gilbert spokesman.
Officer Robert DeMichiel was released from Scottsdale Osborn but will still have to complete physical therapy sessions and have surgery to remove glass fragments in his wrist, a statement said. He also received some nerve damage on his neck and shoulder.
His recovery time was unknown and Gilbert police have not set a date for DeMichiel to return to duty.
DeMichiel was driving his Gilbert police motorcycle Saturday evening when he collided with a vehicle that entered the roadway near the intersection of Lindsay and Smoke Tree Roads.
The driver of the other vehicle, 18-year-old Gilbert resident Chelsea Bobigian, was not injured and no citations have been issued.
