Retired Mesa Chief passes away

Retired Mesa police Chief Joe Quigley passed away Monday morning.

The cause of his death wasn’t immediately available.

According to retired Cmdr. Lin Adams, Quigley was hired on Nov. 16, 1958 and retired on May 1, 1982. He was promoted to police Chief on May 1, 1978.

During his time as Chief, Quigley promoted the first female Sergeant and had a true vision in policing, said Bill Richardson, a Tribune columnist.

    My respects to Chief Quigley, and condolences to his family, and to the Mesa Police Department. I guarantee you there are officers on our streets who remember him, and many who owe him their careers due to his vision. A sad day for Arizona Law Enforcement.
