Coupled robbed at gunpoint in Mesa

July 1st, 2008, 8:40 am · 12 Comments · posted by John Leptich

A 22 year-old woman and her 27 year-old boyfriend were held up at 8 p.m. Monday while walking through the parking lot of 7305 E. Southern Ave. in Mesa. A black Mazda pulled up next to the couple and its male driver pointed a gun at the victim and demanded her purse. He also demanded her boyfriend’s wallet,  but he didn’t have one. The man drove from the scene; his vehicle license plate was covered with duct tape.

Yeah Gascon, crime sure is down in mesa…. was that an april fools statement you made in april…… do you have a clue what goes on everyday here… or are you too busy worried about what sheriff joe is doing???

In the movie “Deal of the Century” Chevy Chase is playing an arms supplier. A guy comes up to him with a gun and demands all his money so he gives it to him. He is standing outside his car and the guy says, give me what’s in the trunk too (I think the trunk is open). Chase’s character says “you don’t want that” to which the robber says, yes I do. So, the thief looks to see if anyone is coming and Chase graps this giant machine gun out of his trunk and points it at the guy. Is that what you mean Viper?

But hey, these 2 don’t have to worry because our police chief is going to lower the crime effect ratio from 48 out of 1000 to 43 out of 1000. Of course, if he were to go after the illegals it would drop more. Once Mesa is no longer a safe illegal spot, he can then turn his attention on the meth addicts. Before you know it, we will be down to 10 out of 1000. But no, Gascon likes the illegals. Oh well, it was worth a shot.

Regarding the story, I am sorry this young lady and man had to go through this.

    Mike,
That’s why I do the same.

I agree, people need to defend themselves and put scum like this where they belong, especially since the Mesa Police Cheif is more concerned with playing politics than keeping his city safe.

WOW driving around with duct tape on your drivers license and no one pulls you over. To bad they did not do this when MCSO was here helping out.

  • silver says:

as i recall mesa doesn’t want MCSO to help……..

  • CiskoKid says:

Mesa Police are probably afraid to pull any one over with duct tape covering their license plates. Smacks of “racial profiling” . It’s begining to look like the voters of Mesa will need a referendum to get rid of the Mesa Police Department, Chief Gascon and Sgt. Cota and bring in a “real” law enforcement entity (Sheriff Joe’s and his deputies) . Mesa doesn’t want or need the Gascon’s “law avoidance” officers in their $100,000.00 new LAPD black and whites.

7305 E. Southern Ave. in Mesa is a MCSO beat… MCSO and Mesa should have been in a reasonably close proximity.

Pulling a weapon on someone who has one pointed at you only works in the movies. Shooting at moving vehicles, even those used in the commission of a felony, is not without risks. One of your rounds strikes some innocent third party, your intentions don’t mean anything. You cannot unring the bell.

There is a Mesa man who went to prison for running out of a bar and shooting at a car leaving the bar, but one his rounds struck and killed a young lady at a motel across the street. This happened on Main St. , the people in the car were not felons, but that didn’t bring the young lady back to life.

If you are going to carry, you had better know ARS Title 13 Chapter 4 by rote, including EXACTLY what to say to the investigating officers, who by the way, will sieze your weapon and hold it as evidence, and you will get it back when they feel like giving it back.

Attorneys aren’t cheap, and you will need one, whether you hurt anyone else or not. So, carry safely, know the statutes, and be prepared for the consequences, regardless of the outcome. Otherwise, you may just another news flash.

Ask the man in prison (Harold Fish) who felt threatened by the other guy’s dogs while hiking up near Payson, then shot the guy. Mr. Fish, the shooter, got ten years in prison, despite the fact the investigators felt he was justified. The county attorney felt different, and convinced 12 good people to see his point of view.

    Good luck, and be careful.
