Teen injured in apparent gang-related fight

A 17-year-old boy who was taken to Banner Baywood Medical center by his mother reported that he was stabbed in the neck by another 17-year-old at 4:36 p.m. Thursday in the 7100 block of east Arbor Avenue in Mesa.

When contacted by Mesa police at his residence, the second teen said that the victim and two other males drove past him, got out of their car and began a fight. The second teen said the victim produced a knife and that he was stabbed while struggling with the three other men.

Police said the victim’s injuries were non -life threatening. Investigators believe the incident is gang related.

Mesa police charge man with aggravated assault

Brian Cornelius Wright was arrested by Mesa police and booked on two counts of aggravated assault at 7:15 p.m. Thursday. Police responded to a shooting call at  1915 S. 39th  St. Officer’s arrived and detained Wright, who lives in the apartment complex. Police say Wright shot at two men, one of whom he argued with.  As one of the men walked away, Wright shot at him with a handgun. The round struck the street and ricocheted into a house across the street. There Wright confessed to Mesa police and was booked without incident

Employee says she was stabbed at Mesa car wash

A female employee of a car was at 430 S. Country Club Drive in Mesa reported being robbed at 8:17 a.m. Thursday.  The woman told police that a black male, 6-foot-1, 170 pounds and wearing a red T-shirt and black pants came to the businesses’ office door, which she opened.  He cut the victim’s arm with a box cutter and demanded the cash victim was counting.  She said the man ran away from the scene to the north.  She told police it was the same man who cut her during a robbery attempt about a month earlier.  The victim received minor injuries and was not transported to a hospital.

Man robs pizza delivery driver in Mesa

A man identifying himself only as John called Pizza Hut at 2050 E. Baseline Road in Mesa at 12: 30 a.m. Thursday to place an order.  He asked if the driver had change for a $100 dollar bill.  He made the order and hung up.  A 58 year-old male driver drove to 1925 E. Inverness to make the delivery.  He was approached by two white men.  The first said he was John and asked the driver if he had change for a $100.  John pointed to a handgun in the waist band of the second man, who lifted his shirt and said “Give me all the money in your pocket and no one gets hurt.”  The men left in a early 1990s Gold Buick.

DPS officer injured in collision

A Department of Public Safety officer was in critical condition late Tuesday night after a vehicle t-boned his car earlier in the day.According to DPS officials the officer’s vehicle was struck on the passenger side at approximately 3:52 p.m.Tuesday on the eastbound I-10, near the mile post 357.The officer was taken to the intensive care unit at a hospital in Tucson but authorities were not yet releasing the officer’s name or photograph pending notification of family.

The investigation is still ongoing and reasons for the accident may not be known for several days, said DPS authorities.

Mesa police investigate fight, alleged theft

At 3:57 p.m. Monday, Mesa police  responded to a man who said family members of his ex-roommate burglarized his apartment at 2055 E. Hampton Ave. The victim told police he allowed the woman’s family members to get her possessions.  There was an apparent discrepancy about the ownership of a Play Station 3 and the roommate’s brother returned to the house with three friends to take the video game system. A fight began, with a gun and knife reportedly shown, but not used.  Police say the family members left with the Play Station. Officers watched one of the family members’ residence and located a stolen vehicle. The driver fled when police tried to follow the vehicle.  Police located the vehicle in the neighborhood with three occupants, two of whom were detained and arrested. Police determined the two were not involved in the robbery, but were associates of the people who arrived during the stolen vehicle investigation.

Scottsdale firefighters battle blaze at Fry’s

Scottsdale fire authorities were on scene of a blaze in a neighborhood grocery store Monday afternoon.

Firefighters were still battling flames at 6 p.m. inside the Fry’s Marketplace, 4707 E. Shea Blvd, at the corner of Tatum Road. According to fire authorities a blaze, which began inside of a semi-truck attached to the building, spread to the main facility.

Everyone inside the building was evacuated, and authorities said there were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire was unknown pending an investigation.

Police raid chop shop, arrest three

Police arrested a 40-year-old Chandler man Saturday on a charge of operating an auto theft chop shop.

Ricardo Manuel Dominguez was booked into the Maricopa County Jail after police found a stolen car, parts to at least four stolen cars and tools consistent with the operation of a chop shop in his property, located at 264 S. 95th Place, near Dobson and Frye roads, police said.

Police were lead to Dominguez while investigating an area near Dobson and Frye roads where 13 Honda passenger cars have been stolen or found during the past three months. While detectives watched the area Saturday, they saw people near 95th Place and Frye Road loading the stripped shell of a Honda Civic onto a trailer.

Detectives followed the people and made a traffic stop, where they learned the car was stolen out of Chandler in May. Police also found methamphetamine packaged to be sold.

Daniel Best, 41, of Mesa and Renee Brown, 50, of Mesa were both arrested on charges of dangerous drugs for sale, auto theft and trafficking in stolen parts, police said.

From there, police said they were led to the chop shop.

Man takes cash from unattended Wal-Mart register

An opportunist stole an undisclosed amount of cash at approximately 4:30 p.m. Sunday from an unattended register at Wal-Mart, 15355 N. Northsight Blvd. in Scottsdale. Police said a man approached the store’s electronics section, saw the unattended register, opened it and took cash from it before fleeing through the store. Store security followed him and as he left the store he turned to security personnel and confronted them with what they described as a stun-type device, which caused security to stop following him.
The man is described as a white male, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, 130 to 160 pounds with short black hair and some facial hair. He left in a white Toyota and fled northbound on Hayden Road.

Man arrested after fight at pizzeria

Cody Poach, 22, was arrested by Gilbert police at 2:29 p.m. Friday when he struck an officer during a fight call at Peter Piper Pizza, 127 E. Williams Field Road, police said. He was taken to the Gilbert Police Department. While in detention, Poach became violent and punched the door to his cell several times. He was placed in a restraint chair. He was later booked at Maricopa County Fourth Avenue Jail on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer and failure to obey an officer.
