Mesa police arrested Robert Foster on Friday after responding to a call about an attempted carjacking in the parking lot of Walgreens, 420 S. Sossman Road. An 84-year-old woman told police that as she walked to her car at 8:15 p.m., a man approached her and grabbed her keys as she was entering her vehicle. Shem struggled with the suspect and he ran away after she started honking her car horn. Nothing was taken from the woman or car.About 2 1/2 hours later, police spotted a man matching the description the woman gave police walking southbound on Sossaman from Broadway Road. Foster, 31, admitted he was at the scene with the victim. He was taken into custody for two outstanding misdemeanor warrants and later booked on attempted robbery

He really didn’t want the car, it was the gas he was after!

How about you pick on someone your own size instead of an 84 yr old woman? You should be ashamed of yourself! Oh but let me guess, you’re going to blame it on drugs or that your mom & dad didn’t love you enough growing up right? How about you grow up & be a man & leave innocent people alone? People like you make me sick!

I live a couple of blocks from this Walgreens. This neighborhood is getting rougher all the time. There are drug dealers and chop shops all over the place. The sheriff patrols regularly but we have an incident on our block about once a month that requires five or six cars full of cops–yet these people are like roaches and manage to scuttle away or they get out on bail and are back on the streets hours after being arrested. It’s very discouraging. These thugs bring more crime to the area–like this loser who has to attack old women. There’s been a lot of criticism of the Maricopa Sheriff’s office, but they do a good job out here. I just wish they’d shoot a few more of these scum.

Why do women continue to go out after dark, even to their local store. Sad to say we’ve come to this point, but it’s the world we live in. I can’t guess what was so important to this elderly woman to go out alone after dark. A prescription? When you approach your car & have your keys ready, even in daylight, learn to use the panic button most of us have on the keys for late model cars. These car alarms go off all the time, frequently in error & few bystanders even notice. Get real, we live in a violent country full of opportunity for crime. Survival of the fitest - the strong prey on the weak & vunerable.

Found walking hours later indicates a crime committed by opportunity.
