A mother discovered she had left her 2-month-old daughter inside her car after Phoenix fire crews brought the child inside a Food City where the mother was in line paying for groceries.
Sgt. Andy Hill of Phoenix police said an anonymous 911 call around 2:20 p.m. led fire crews to a child inside a white four door car in a shopping center at 43rd Avenue and Thomas Road. Once fire crews broke the window to reach the unresponsive child, CPR was performed and the infant began to breathe again. She is currently in stable condition at a local hospital.
According to Hill, the baby was moved inside the Food City to cool down and the 25-year-old mother recognized the child after coming over to emergency crews.
The infant’s mother told police she did not realize she had left the baby behind, Hill said. Moments before she stopped for groceries, she dropped off the child’s grandmother and a 4-year-old child in another shopping complex and claimed she forgot about the infant.
Police are investigating possible charges of child abuse, Hill said.

I can’t Believe that parents are getting THAT irresponsible.
Mom should be put in a hot car and left…….The child should be given to CPS and then offered for adoption. There is NO EXCUSE for this type of neglect. It is inexcusable and she should not have custody of the child.

I realize the seriousness of the mother’s action of forgetfulness; however, I don’t think she should be hanged. I feel if the officials look into her past mothering skills and if they find this forgetfulness/abandoning her children to be a habit then maybe criminal charges should be sought. But why can’t we learn to give people the benefit of doubt before we just assumed they has purposely engaged in criminal activity? With a 4 year old and a 2 month old, life can often get hectic and not knowing the pressures other arenas in her life, such as her mother being with her and apparently having to shop for food, she could have very easily forgot about the baby. Being the mother of 4 and the grandmother of 8, I can pretty much assure you that after the possiblity of almost losing her baby, she is going to be a much more attentive mother in the future. Typically, people don’t just have children to neglect and abuse them. Who knows where this mother’s mind was but I can pretty much assure you that if wasn’t on killing her new baby.
