Police quickly nab suspect in fast food robbery attempt

A fast food drive-thru clerk was held at gunpoint early Wednesday and nearly robbed.

Despite the gunman’s quick getaway and blue bandannas covering his face and license plate, police caught up with a suspect and arrested him.

Miguel Hernandez, 20, of Mesa was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted armed robbery.

Shortly after the incident, the suspect drove off in a white Honda Civic and police officers noticed a vehicle matching that description pull into a gas station at Val Vista Drive and Main Street.

When the driver noticed police in the area, he quickly reversed and left speeding away. Police pulled the man over in a traffic stop, even though the clerk had not yet called 911 due to customers in his store. While talking with Hernandez, the robbery call came out over the police radio and he was arrested.

Police said the clerk identified the vehicle and driver in the robbery.
