Two young men ended up in jail Saturday in connection with stealing dozens of rafts from Mesa’s Golfland Sunsplash.
According to court records, Joe Black and Andrew Holstein, both 21 and of Mesa, were involved in the crime.
Police suspect Holstein broke into the amusement park before 2 a.m. and grabbed the boxes and threw them over the fence, while Black loaded them into the bed of a truck.
Black told police the pair had left a party and that he didn’t know what they were “getting” from Golfland Sunsplash,, but that he knew the boxes contained some type of items. Holstein invoked his right not to incriminate himself and didn’t talk about the crime with police, records show.
The two men were booked into Mesa City Jail. Black is suspected of first degree burglary and Holstein is suspected of burglary and possession of burglary tools.
Court records show a witness at a local business alerted police to the burglary while it was occurring.
