A routine traffic stop Saturday night led police to a marijuana-filled vehicle possibly en route to Pennsylvania.

Police say the 2003 Volvo Conventional tractor with a refrigerated trailer was carrying 4,100 pounds of marijuana when a Department of Public Safety officer stopped the vehicle for not having a trailer license plate.

The driver, Denzil McFarlane, allowed the officer to search the vehicle after being pulled over on northbound Interstate 17 near Anthem, DPS said.

With the help of a K-9 unit, officers uncovered five pallets of 184 bundles of marijuana wrapped in cellophane. Each bundle weighed up to 25 pounds. Police seized the vehicle with the bundles inside.

A police investigation found that the truck was from Tucson on its way to Philadelphia. McFarlane, of Florida, was the only person in the vehicle.

McFarlane is expected to be charged with possession, possession for sale and transportation of marijuana for sale.
