Although Cinco de Mayo falls on a Monday this year, police officers and party goers alike will be out in full force over the holiday weekend.
On Friday night, a Cinco de Mayo police DUI task force arrested 37 people for driving under the influence. According to police, 11 were extreme DUI’s, with a blood alcohol level of .15 or above. In Arizona, drivers are legally under the influence if their blood alcohol level is .08 or above.
Four people arrested Friday had a prior DUI conviction, while six others were arrested for underage drinking and driving.
Police will continue saturation patrols and set up sobriety checkpoints through Monday.
