The driver of a getaway car left his partner in crime behind and struck a store-clerk who was trying to stop a beer run Wednesday.
According to Mesa police, a gray Chevrolet Aveo pulled up at 1:21 a.m. to a gas pump at the Chevron at 1205 W. Baseline Road.
The passenger went inside the store, grabbed a case of beer and ran as the clerk chased him.
The car drove at the clerk, who jumped onto the hood and broke the windshield with his knee.
Detective Chris Arvayo, Mesa police spokesman, said the car drove away and left behind the thief, who dropped the beer and ran away.
Arvayo said the clerk got a small abrasion on his knee and declined medical treatment.
