It took a SWAT team, but a 26-year-old Mesa man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of domestic violence.
According to Mesa police, Joshua James Deysie assaulted his 31-year-old girlfriend, pointed a handgun at her head and knocked her out by throwing her to the ground.
The woman was able to flee, leaving her 7-year-old child inside the home.
Police weren’t able to reach Deysie by phone at first, but a SWAT team arrived and, using a public address system, talked him into surrendering.

Esmeralda Cazares is currently being held in a juvenile center for runaways in Nevada. Mesa police say the girl is currently in good condition. The girl went missing on Wednesday after a neighbor dropped her off at school. Her parents were concerned she had gone to Mexico when they found out she was planning the trip with an adult male, police said. The male victim, who has not been identified, was found at 6 a.m. in the burning car near Encanto Boulevard and 43rd Avenue after Phoenix firefighters doused the flames. Police believe the Mercury Grand Marquis was stolen earlier from an apartment complex three miles away at Thomas Road and 63rd Avenue. Witnesses saw three men approach the vehicle and drive off with the victim inside. The incidents have not officially been linked, but police believe the cases are related. Witnesses describe the three suspects as being in their 20’s, one wearing a black shirt and baseball cap with “NY” across the front. Another man had a heavy build with spiky black hair wearing jeans and a white t-shirt. Mesa resident Esmeralda Cazares, 14, was last seen Wednesday by her neighbor who dropped her off for school, according to Mesa police. Cazares lives near 8th Avenue and Country Club Drive and was seen wearing tan pants and a red shirt at the time of her disappearance. She is Hispanic with brown eyes and hair, although she may have been wearing blue contact lenses. She stands at 5′0″ and weighs 100 pounds. Cazares has no immediate medical concerns, but her family fears for her safety. Mesa police ask that anyone with information contact them or their local police department. The bag with the unknown substance was found lying near a bush around 5 p.m. According to Tempe authorities, the evacuations are simply a precaution to ensure that nobody gets hurt in the event that the unknown substance is found to be dangerous. Eight rooms at the Days Inn hotel on 1221 E. Apache, and 12 units of the Sonoran Ridge apartments on 1205 E. Apache were evacuated by police. Police were still on the scene around 8 p.m. Thursday and expected to be at the location for another hour while the substance was tested. Police: Man arrested on warrants siphoned gasApril 17th, 2008, 6:17 pm by Eddi TrevizoA Mesa man was arrested Wednesday afternoon on outstanding warrants after he was caught siphoning gas from a car he said was his mother’s, police said. Richard M. Sumrall Jr., 30, said he was putting gasoline from his mother’s car into his white Chevy truck, according to court documents. He told police officers, who were called to check on the suspicious activity, that his mother had given him permission and that he didn’t think it was wrong. But police ran a warrants check and found he had an outstanding warrant for criminal damage and disorderly conduct. Neiman Marcus merchandise stolen, man arrestedApril 17th, 2008, 5:42 pm by Eddi TrevizoTempe police arrested a man who they say stole nearly $19,000 dollars worth of merchandise from a Neiman Marcus outlet.According to a crime report posted by Tempe police on the agency’s web site, Walter Nicholson, 64, was found at 5000 S. AZ Mills wearing stolen articles of clothing and in possession of a large amount of cash from stolen items that he sold. Police said patrol officers and the Criminal Investigations Bureau believed that Nicholson had stolen approximately $19,000, and had recovered a large amount of the stolen property in Nicholson’s car. According to authorities, a warrant to search a storage facility rented by the suspect led officers to find even more stolen property. Nicholson was arrested on April 14 on suspicion of possession of stolen property and trafficking stolen property. The investigation is still ongoing. |
