Mesa police arrested a 21-year-old man who accidently shot his girlfriend during quick draw practice on Friday.
Amber Sungleton, 23, was sleeping in her bed at 3:17 a.m. in a hotel room at 5440 E. Main St. as Joseph Simpson practiced drawing his loaded handgun from his waistband.
The gun fired when he drew it with his finger on the trigger.
The woman was shot in her left lower abdomen, but her wound was not considered life threatening, according to detective Steve Berry, Mesa police spokesman.
Simpson called 911 and officers booked him on suspicion of aggravated assault.

There’s a punch line looking for a joke….
Freaking hilarious!! Tweakers!
An accident? - why do I find that hard to believe???
Good shootin’ Tex.
Now, when you get out, why don’t you play russian roulet with an automatic? Then we can all laugh at you again.
At least those around you would be safer, unless you miss your own pinhead.
This is Amber. I am currently still in the hospital. It definitely was not an accident. I am sitting here in pain while he is sitting at home with his mom. If it was an accident, why didn’t he even bother to try and call and at least make sure that i am doing ok. Not an i’m sorry or at least take care. nothing from him. So accident?……. I think not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it was an accident. he was practicing taking the safety off and putting his finger in the trigger hole. he had no idea it was chambered. after he realized what happened he called 911 and the ambulance came. he tried to go with but the cops held him back. when he was realesed he wanted to contact her but due to his release conditions he is not able to. it was a complete accident
