A 23-year-old man was struck and killed by a train early Saturday while it traveled through Tempe.

Tempe Fire spokesman Mike Reichling said police are still investigating the cause of the accident that occurred on the train tracks at Rural Road in between Spence Avenue and Vista Del Cerro Drive around 2:18 a.m.

Police are unsure whether the victim, Kerry Garcon, was impaired or committed suicide in front of the train.

Tempe wants the trains to quit sounding horns in order to make it nice and quiet. Tempe hasn’t been quiet since before Sky Harbor was expanded beyond one terminal and the freeways were built. I just wonder how many people will be killed when Tempe makes its railroad crossings quiet and the trains stop sounding any kind of noticeable warning?

Thank you East Valley Tibune for spelling his name properly. The other newspaper did not take the time to consider their sources and qualify even his name. Thank you for helping us bring closure to this horrific incedent.
