It may be Thursday before authorities are able to identify two men killed when their speeding BMW crashed and burst into flames late Tuesday in Tempe.

The men’s bodies were taken to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office on Wednesday to be identified through dental records and other means, said Tempe police spokesman officer Brandon Banks.

The men were killed at about 11:45 p.m. when their white BMW lost control near University Drive and 52nd Street, jumped a median and hit a pole, Banks said. Witnesses told police the car was driving well above the 45mph speed limit when it crashed, he said.

Banks said the witnesses tried to help the men, “but it was just too horrific of the crash.”
