A man accused of smashing a beer mug against another man’s head on Friday night, may face charges of aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, and criminal damage.
The incident occurred at a Famous Sam’s Bar at 430 N. Power Road, in Mesa, authorities say. Eric Charles Neville, 27, is suspected of smashing a beer mug over a man’s head and repeatedly punching him on the floor until a bartender broke up the fight, according to authorities.
Witnesses at the scene said the attack seemed unprovoked and that the victim suffered several deep lacerations on his forehead and upper lip, according to police report.
Neville left the scene before emergency crews arrived at scene, but was later arrested at Banner Gateway Hospital, his hand had required medical attention, according to court documents.

Funny, the same thing happened to me years ago. I was hit in the back of the head without warning with a mug. Then I was punched and kicked repeatedly while on the floor.
The bartender shouted to “get out”, and the guy stopped beating me and left. I got up off the floor and was told to get out, so I went home all bloody, beaten, and battered with knuckle bruises all over my forehead.
A few days later my doorbell rings. I answer to find two officers. I figured that maybe they wanted a statement from me descriibing the events of that night, but they weren’t concerned with what had happened. They had come to arrest me ! I went to jail with 3 broken ribs and facial swelling and bruising because the guy who had attacked me had gone to the hospital to treat a broken hand.
My attacker had given a bogus statement to police at the hospial. To save his own butt from a trip to jail i’m sure.
I was never given the opportunity to give police a statement.
Of course I planned to fight this bogus charge of aggravated battery, but could not afford anything better than a public defender to represent me.
On the scheduled court date my attacker who had filed charges against me was a no show. I thought that the nightmare was over, but the prosecutor said he was going to still try the case. My public defender told me that if I didn’t plead guilty that the judge would hold me in jail without bond for up to a year, until my court date arrived. Against every ounce of my being I pled.
We live in a day and age that if someone on the street stabs you, you could end up a felon for assaultiing a knife with your abdomen.
I have been convicted of attacking a fist with my face. I pray that this doesn’t happen to this guy who was attacked.
