Seven suspected gang members have been indicted by a state grand jury on a long list of charges including drug possession, assault, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, assisting a criminal street gang and racketeering.
The indictment was announced Monday and came more than a week after the men were arrested by Chandler police in a complicated sting operation. Acting on a tip that the men, all from Phoenix, had been robbing houses used by other criminals to store drugs, guns and money, police set up a vacant home to look like a so-called stash house. When the men showed up to reportedly rob the house, police arrested them.
The group was charged with a total of 19 felony counts. The men indicted were Dante Paul Cherry, 21; Joseph Lavance Smith II, 30; Carlos G. Smith, 27; Brian Keith Ross, 33; Dawone Montay Jones, 26; Aaron James Hagler, 22; and James Gonsalvez, 32. The could not be reached Tuesday for comment.
