Two men were arrested Thursday on suspicion of possessing more than 2,000 pounds of marijuana and selling it out of a U-Haul truck in
Phoenix.
Police booked Mario Dominguez, 33, and Gilberto Betran-Bercerra, 32, into jail on suspicion of marijuana for sale and weapons charges.
Phoenix police somehow received information that people were selling drugs from a parked U-haul truck at 6451 West Van Buren Streetand began watching the area. Police said they saw the two suspects loading items from the truck into a van.
When the suspects drove away in the van, police made a traffic stop on the men. The suspects bailed out of the car and ran off into a neighborhood, but were soon captured, police said.
The cops found about 150 marijuana and two handguns in the van, and after a search warrant was served at a business where the U-Haul truck was parked, the rest of the marijuana was located and so was a rifle.
The street value of the drugs is estimated at $1 million.
