A Mesa man arrested by the FBI on child porn charges Friday told agents who were searching his apartment that they hit the “mother load.”
Donald Claus, 56, had a locked closet filled with catalogs, books, disks, and CDs containing tens of thousands of sexually explicit images of children, according to an affidavit filed in U.S. District Court in Phoenix.
Claus told investigators he downloaded child porn daily and had been collecting it since 1968, a hobby he said kept him from molesting children.
Claus first came to the attention of police in the Netherlands in July 2006 who were investigating a child porn internet forum.
Police there provided the FBI with information to use in tracking down Claus.
He is scheduled for a detention hearing Thursday.
