A 50-year-old man was hospitalized with head injuries Wednesday after fighting with police.
According to a Mesa police summary of the incident, Daniel David Rickard was reaching for an officer’s utility belt near his weapon during the 6 p.m. struggle at 128 S. Hibbert. The officer stopped him for moving violations and Rickard lied about his identity, the summary states. The officer discovered his true identity and found Rickard was wanted on warrants. Rickard ran when the officer tried to arrest him, but the officer caught him and the struggle ensued. The officer suffered cuts and bruises while Rickard was sent to a hospital for head trauma.
