A 21-year-old woman foiled an early Thursday morning purse snatching near Applebee’s on Gilbert Road, authorities said.The woman was walking home on Gilbert Road near Baseline Road when Filemon Del Hoyo, 22, of Mesa, ran toward her and asked for a cigarette, then grabbed her purse, said Gilbert police spokesman Lt. Eric Shuhandler.The woman was armed with a knife and attempted to defend herself and cut Del Hoyo, who then fled in a vehicle without the purse.At 12:40 a.m. police officers learned of the robbery and eventually officers found the vehicle and Del Hoyo near Eighth Street and Gilbert Road in Mesa.
