Two Phoenix police officers were injured early Sunday when the cruiser they were riding in collided with a car in the 4100 Block of West Thomas Road. Police said the cause of the collision is still under investigation.The driver of the car that collided with the officers fled in his vehicle, then ran away. Police caught the man — 20-year-old Stefano Galindo — shortly afterward and booked him into jail on suspicion of hit-and-run involving injury, driving under the influence of alcohol and underage drinking.The officers were taken to local hospitals where they are receiving treatment. Their names have not been released.Additional information was not readily available.

A blood alcohol content of at least .08 is considered drunk.Officials said the average blood alcohol content of all drivers arrested was .15. Authorities also cited 42 people for not wearing seatbelts, two people for not putting their children in car seats, 86 minors for drinking alcohol, 16 people for driving under the influence of drugs and 1,493 others for various traffic violations. The task force will end Sept. 3. Robbins, 58, of Phoenix, ran a red light while traveling east on Thomas Road in her Ford Focus and struck Clyde H. Raymon, 84, of Scottsdale as he drove his Toyota Camry south on 68th Street through the intersection.Police said Raymon had been wearing a seat belt and the airbag deployed. He was treated and released from Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn. Robbins, who hadn’t been wearing a seat belt, broke her arms and legs and suffered head trauma. Steve Berry said it is unclear why the driver veered to strike the bicyclist and then two cars as it headed south on Dobson Road near Broadway Road at 3:15 p.m.Berry characterized the cyclist’s injuries as serious, but non-fatal, and the driver’s injuries as minor. He did not have details regarding the identities of the people involved.Impairment could be a factor, Berry said, but investigators had yet to determine the cause of the accident. The average blood alcohol content of all arrestees was 0.156.Authorities reported that 18 arrests were for aggravated DUI, 216 were misdemeanor DUIs and 98 were extreme (BAC of 0.15 or higher).The announcement also said that 19 arrestees had prior DUI convictions and 26 were underage.In the process of these arrests, authorities also issued 1,186 other citations, including 36 seat belt violations and 42 minor underage consumption violations.
