Investigators visited at random more than 40 toy retail outlets in the Valley after hearing of the recall of Chinese-made toys by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Investigators bought toys and tested them for hazardous substances. Inspections will continue, said County Attorney Andrew Thomas in a press release. He said he was happy not to have found violations so far.

Baseline Rd. just after 1 p.m. Police said the man may have been wearing pantyhose as a mask.Mid-afternoon, a property manager advised businesses in the area to lock their doors while police searched for the perpetrator.Gilbert Det. Christopher and Jacob FranksA couple of brothers were arrested Thursday on suspicion of burglarizing a soda machine in Superstition Springs Mall, according to court documents. Two officers who were patrolling the mall were riding the down escalator when they heard a crash. They found a vending machine cash box on top of a glass display case and saw two men leaving the exit near Ruby Tuesday�s restaurant. Christopher Franks, 23, told police he burglarized the machine and then handed over $90. Franks said his brother, Jacob Franks, 27, had nothing to do with the crime. Jacob Franks declined to speak with police and asked for a lawyer.
James OsbornA Mesa police officer who was on the lookout for a stolen car was injured Thursday when it crashed into his stationary patrol car.According to a police summary of the incident, James Osborn, 38, was arrested on several felony charges.The officer pulled into a driveway of an apartment complex at 600 S. Dobson Road and parked as he waited for more information on a stolen vehicle that had failed to yield as it pulled into the complex.Osborn tried to maneuver around the parked patrol car, lost control and then smashed into the front passenger side.The officer complained of kidney pain and was driven to Banner Occupational Health.
