Suspect in pursuit stops for cigarettes

Police arrested a man Tuesday after a pursuit through Phoenix where a fleeing man still found time to stop and buy a pack of cigarettes.The incident began with a bank robbery about 10 a.m. at the Bank of America near 44th Street and Thomas Road. The robber handed over a demand note and took off with money.A witness told police the man’s license plate number and authorities tracked him to a home in the 2100 block of East Yale.While police were conducting surveillance on the home, the man and a woman escaped in a truck, police said. The pair was followed and cornered, but the robber drove into an unmarked police car and got away.Police tracked the man using only a helicopter and he dropped off the woman and bought a pack of cigarettes.The law finally caught up with him when he drove over stop sticks and ended up back at his home. Police said they found money and an unopened pack of cigarettes in the truck. Chandler police arrested a woman in her 20s on Sunday after she allegedly assaulted a man with a popsicle, according to court records.At 10:09 p.m. police went to East Warner Road and McQueen Road where they found the woman and man.Rebecca L. Juarros, of Chandler, admitted to hitting the man in the eye during a verbal argument, the document says.The popsicle strike caused a contusion surrounding his left eye.Juarros was arrested for assault, disorderly conduct and fighting.

Mesa police are investigating a shooting on Saturday but they have no suspects or victim.What they do have is a report of shots fired about 2 p.m. in the area of Leseuer and Gable, a white truck with a bullet hole in the windshield, a shell casing and a trail of blood leading to a nearby home in which there was a gun and more blood.

The Chandler Police Department has launched a Web page containing information about a serial rapist who still remains on the loose.The Internet site can be linked by going to the Chandler Police Department Internet page, www.chandlerpd.com.The Web page contains press releases about the cases believed to be connected to a man who has attacked five girls between the ages of 12 and 14 since June of 2006. The most recent sexual assault came this June at a mobile home park on Warner Road.The attacker targets areas east and west of Arizona Avenue.Also on the Internet page is a composite drawing of the man, a description of him, links to Silent Witness and an online tip form.
