A Tempe man who told police he shook his 7-week-old daughter to stop her from crying will face homicide charges after she died on Saturday, said Sgt. Mike Horn, Tempe police spokesman. David Chaparra-Atondo was arrested Thursday after he took Selena Chaparro-Pennell to Tempe St. Lukes Hospital. The girl was unresponsive when he took her to the hospital. Detectives are going to recommend a charge of second-degree murder, which carries a punishment of 10 to 22 years in prison.
