By Daryl JamesMaricopa County Sheriff’s Office divers pulled a body from Saguaro Lake early Saturday evening in an apparent drowning.Deputy Charles Scudella said the rescue call came at 2:27 p.m. - the exact same time as a call about a boat explosion at nearby Apache Lake. Scudella said heavy rain hampered rescue efforts at Saguaro Lake."The weather stopped our divers for a short time," he said. "But then they did go in and make the recovery."Scudella described the victim as a 42-year-old white male but did not immediately release the victim’s name pending notification of relatives. He said the body was pulled from the water at 4:49 p.m.Rescue teams also responded to two near-drownings Saturday. One call at Blue Point Recreation Site in the Tonto National Forest involved a 23-year-old female. Another call at Sheep’s Crossing involved two possible victims, including an 8-year-old.The boat explosion at Apache Lake left three people injured."The boat was completely engulfed in flames and is now under water," Scudella said.He said heavy rain and hail kept rescue helicopters grounded, so the victims were ground transported to a hospital in Globe.

We were parked right next to the boat at Apache Lake when it exploded. My boyfriend and his brother pulled the lady out of the boat right before it was engulfed in flames. It was so crazy and unreal, like things you only see in the movie. I hope everyone from that boat is okay, and that they found both of their dogs. Anyone know where I can find out how those 3 people are doing??
We were at the beach next to the marina when it blew. We later found out from workers at the hotel that both dogs were found. One was missing for awhile, but was found without injury. The other was seen limping and may have had a spinal injury.
My mom and dad were the ones on the boat with a friend. A day of fun turned wrong. I do want to thank those who helped pull my mom and dad to satety. Unfortunately, both of the dogs didn’t survive this tragedy. My mom is still in ICU and my dad is having more test ran. Please feel free to contact me for more information on everyone aboard.
Thanks again for saving their lives!
I too want to thank everyone that saved my brother and sister-in-laws lives on Saturday. They would not have made it without quick thinking and immediate assitance. As my niece stated above, my sister-in-law is still in ICU and my brother is being released from the hospital today. The other passenger in the boat is fine. However, neither dog made it, one was put to sleep due to a spine injury and the other’s body was found Monday. Along with my niece’s comments above, I do want to thank everyone again for everything they did.
Thomas Eric Ball - Father, Brother, Uncle - RIP
He did not quit. He did not leave. He is with us in our hearts. He wanted to go higher so he could see, He wanted to go higher so he could watch over the people that he loved and cared for even closer, so just remember when you are down or need someone to talk to or just miss him just hold your head up and he will be there,
May God be with you on this hard and sad day and many to come
GOD BLESS YOU ALL
