A man who robbed a south Scottsdale smoke shop Friday morning pepper sprayed a customer before he got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.The man, described as being in his 30s or 40s and wearing a red shirt with ragged shorts that feature roses on them, entered the Coughing Canary Smoke Shop at 7162 E. Police find $1 million stuffed in truck tire

More than $1 million in cash stuffed into a spare tire was seized by police on Monday after a semi-truck was stopped at a routine inspection point along Interstate 40.The Arizona Department of Safety discovered the stash when inspectors from the Arizona Department of Agriculture became suspicious after they found the truck filled with rotting watermelons and onions. Police then noticed a brand-new spare tire because it was bolted on with an unusually large padlock, police said. A local towing company was called to remove the tire. Chandler police arrested a Laveen man Wednesday in connection with the 2006 homicide of a Chandler man.Police suspect Johnny Grant may be responsible for the murder of 21-year-old Erik Busch on November 19, 2006 during an armed robbery. The homicide occurred at an apartment at 1817 N. Dobson Road.Police said Grant was booked on one count of first-degree murder, two counts of armed robbery and two counts of kidnapping.

Mesa police are investigating a reported attack of a woman Wednesday at Superstition Springs Center that could have been a kidnapping. A witness called 911 about 10:15 p.m. to report that four males forced a woman to the ground in the west parking lot of the shopping center. But officers who arrived within three minutes of the call found no sign of a crime. Three people forced from a Chandler home after a car smashed into it on Wednesday are receiving support from the American Red Cross. The Grand Canyon Chapter of the volunteer-run organization will provide the displaced residents with hotel rooms and food for the next few days. Mesa police arrested a man suspected of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old autistic girl at her home earlier this month. Adam Bressette, 18, turned himself in to police on Tuesday, which was also his birthday. Police will be available Wednesday to discuss increasing crime in central Mesa and offer crime prevention tips to residents.View mapThey will be at the northwest corner of Country Club Drive and Southern Avenue from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., said detective Diana Tapia, a Mesa police spokeswoman.Tapia said there were 99 reported aggravated assaults, robberies and car burglaries between March and June, most of them occurring between noon and 2 a.m. Thursdays through Mondays in an area bordered by Broadway and Guadalupe roads and Extension Road and Center Street. Police are also going to step up enforcement and work with other police agencies.
