Phoenix boosts fines for illegal parking in handicap spaces

Fines for illegal parking in a handicap space will jump from $140 to a minimum of $250 in Phoenix starting July 1, the police department announced Thursday. Police detective Cindy Scott said the fine will also apply to people who improperly use handicap placards. People caught with altered or forged handicapped placards face $500 fines. "These spaces are not a privilege, but a necessity to many people," Scott said.
